Stagg Batch 23A is a 130.2 Proof (65.1% ABV) small batch bourbon produced at the Buffalo Trace Distillery. This Summer 2023 release is composed of barrels matured for approximately 8 to 9 years within the distillery’s historic Kentucky rickhouses and follows the low rye Buffalo Trace Mash Bill #1 recipe. Bottled uncut and non-chill filtered, the liquid maintains its natural barrel oils and rich esters.
The profile is characterized by a concentrated delivery of dark fruit, toasted sugar, and the signature Stagg cherry that transitions into a long finish of seasoned oak and baking spices. The 130.2 proof intensity specifically highlights the heavy caramelization and wood sugars developed during the maturation period in the center of the warehouse. This batch is noted for its punchy ethanol integration and a dense, oil-forward mouthfeel that carries deep notes of leather and tobacco alongside its core sweetness.
