Stagg Jr Batch 1 is a 134.4 Proof (67.2% ABV) small batch bourbon produced at the Buffalo Trace Distillery. Released in August 2013 as the inaugural entry in the Stagg Jr series, this spirit was matured for approximately eight to nine years within the historic warehouses of Frankfort, Kentucky. Master Distiller Harlen Wheatley utilized Buffalo Trace’s Mash Bill #1, a low-rye recipe featuring corn, rye, and malted barley—matured exclusively in new charred American oak.
The technical profile is defined by its uncut and unfiltered nature, retaining the intense concentration of barrel esters and wood sugars typical of high-proof aging. The structural framework is exceptionally bold and warming, featuring a nose of deep purple grape, caramel, and ethanol, with a palate dominated by assertive pepper, leather, and dark chocolate notes that transition into a long, smoky finish of cherries and cloves.
