Sazerac 18 Year Old 2019 90 Proof is a landmark technical release from Buffalo Trace Distillery (DSP-KY-113), representing the first year since 2018 that the distillery bypassed the "tanking" process in favor of an active barrel maturation cycle. Distilled in the spring of 2001, the spirit underwent 18 years and 4 months of continuous aging in new charred American white oak.
Because this release was pulled directly from barrels and bottled without the stabilization of stainless steel vats, it exhibits a more vibrant wood interaction and a deeper oxidative profile than previous vatted lots. The technical profile is defined by an 18-year maturation in the Kentucky climate, which concentrated the liquid into a high-viscosity structural framework. This non-tanked expression features a refined balance of dark fruit esters and seasoned oak, underpinned by the signature dry herbal spice associated with the distillery’s proprietary in-house rye production.
