Sazerac 18 Year Old 2012 Release is a technical continuation of the legendary 1985 distillation lot, which is famously rumored to have been produced at either the Old Bernheim Distillery or George T. Stagg Distillery. This spirit underwent 18 years of primary maturation in new charred American white oak before reaching peak maturity in 2003, at which point the remaining stock was transferred into stainless steel vats.
This vatting process arrested further wood interaction, allowing Buffalo Trace to maintain absolute profile consistency for the annual releases spanning 2005 to 2015. Bottled at 90 proof, this 2012 edition exhibits the stabilized structural framework of the 1985 distillate, defined by its high-viscosity body and signature herbal complexity. The technical profile remains consistent with the vatted master batch, showcasing notes of allspice, herbal tea, and leather, preserved through nearly a decade of steel stabilization.
