Sazerac 18 Year Old 2004 Release serves as the final installment of the legendary 1984 distillation lot shared across the 2002 and 2003 Antique Collection releases. This spirit was produced in the spring of 1984 and underwent 18 years of primary maturation in new charred American white oak before being moved into tanks to arrest further aging.
This tanking process was a critical technical maneuver to preserve the delicate balance of the rye, preventing the "over-oaked" bitterness that often accompanies ultra-aged heritage stocks. At a steady 90 proof, this 2004 bottling represents the last opportunity to experience this specific batching before the series transitioned to the 1985 tanked stocks. The profile is characterized by a high-viscosity body with a structural framework of herbal mint, allspice, and dried dark fruits, offering a clean technical window into early-80s rye production.
