The 2017 Michter's 10 Year Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is bottled at 94.4 proof (47.2% ABV) by Michter's in Louisville, Kentucky. A single-barrel, limited-quantity release matured for at least a decade in new charred American white oak, the 2017 edition was the first 10 Year Bourbon approved by Master Distiller Pamela Heilmann.
Heilmann had been promoted in 2016 as the first woman to serve as Master Distiller at a Kentucky Distillers' Association member distillery since Prohibition, succeeding the legendary Willie "Dr. No" Pratt. The 2017 release followed shortly after Pratt's induction into Whisky Magazine's Hall of Fame, placing the bottling at the hinge between Michter's two defining modern distillers. Each barrel was selected individually, proofed to the brand's traditional 94.4, and chill-filtered to preserve its character.
True to Michter's philosophy, the 10 Year Bourbon is bottled only when judged fully matured, never on a fixed schedule, and every single barrel must meet the brand's rigorous standards on its own. Named "Best American Whiskey" by Food & Wine, it remains one of the most sought-after annual age-stated bourbons in American whiskey. The 2017 release shows Michter's signature big, bold character — dark toffee and caramel, charred oak, maple syrup, and vanilla — in a now hard-to-find vintage.
