George T. Stagg 2018 is a signature barrel-strength expression from the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection, distilled at DSP-KY-113 using the distillery's low-rye Mashbill #1. Distilled in the spring of 2003, this spirit underwent 15 years and 4 months of maturation in new charred American white oak. This vintage is technically significant for its 124.9 proof, which marked the lowest proof in the series' history at the time of release, allowing for a more nuanced exploration of the underlying grain and fruit esters.
Despite the lower proof, the barrels experienced a substantial evaporation loss, ensuring the liquid maintains a dense, oily structural framework. With an estimated 37,111 bottles released, the technical profile is defined by refined notes of dark chocolate, cola, and toasted oak, delivering a balanced wood impact without the aggressive heat of higher-proof vintages.
