Fortaleza Los Abuelos AƱejo Tequila is an 80 Proof (40% ABV) additive-free spirit produced at NOM 1493 as an exclusive release for the Mexican market. While known globally as Fortaleza, the brand is bottled under its original name, Los Abuelos, within Mexico to honor the five generations of the Sauza family heritage. Because the "Los Abuelos" name was already copyrighted in the United States by a different spirits entity, the distillery was required to change its branding to Fortalezaāmeaning "Fortitude"āfor all American and international allocations.
Matured for at least 18 months in used American oak barrels, this expression is tahona-crushed and fermented in open-air wooden vats in the town of Tequila. The resulting profile balances sweet roasted agave with complex layers of butterscotch, toasted vanilla, and dried fruit. This 750ml bottle features the rare original Mexican labeling and hand-blown glass, serving as a primary target for collectors seeking the brandās foundational identity.
