Eagle Rare 17 Year Old 2023 is a technically significant release in the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection, as it marks the oldest bottling of this specific label to date. While carrying the standard 17 year age statement, the barrels selected for this vintage were actually aged for 19 years and 3 months. Distilled in the spring of 2004 at Buffalo Trace Distillery (DSP-KY-113), the spirit was matured in new charred American white oak barrels (#4 char) across Warehouses C, I, K, M, and Q.
This release experienced a high 78% evaporation loss, which concentrated the liquid into a dense, high-viscosity structural framework. Bottled at 101 proof—a permanent tribute to the original 1975 strength—the technical profile is defined by a refined integration of oak and dark fruit. It delivers a sophisticated palate of chocolate-covered cherries, vanilla, and caramel, transitioning into a dry, spicy finish with earthy notes of cigar box and aged leather.
