Orphan Barrel Lost Prophet is a 90.1 Proof (45.05% ABV) straight bourbon produced as a limited release from the Orphan Barrel Whiskey Co. This 2014 expression utilizes a mash bill of 75–78% corn, 15% rye, and 7–10% malted barley, widely considered to be Buffalo Trace Mash Bill #2. The liquid was distilled in 1991 at the George T. Stagg Distillery (now Buffalo Trace) and matured for 22 years within the historic Stitzel-Weller rickhouses in Shively, Kentucky.
This extensive aging in a traditional seasonal climate allowed for a refined wood influence that avoids the over-oaked character typical of many 20+ year bourbons. The resulting profile is sophisticated and silky, featuring initial notes of honey, apricot, and clove that transition into a palate of spiced vanilla, leather, and soft smoke with a balanced, dry finish.
