2022 Clase Azul Dia de los Muertos - Colores is the second installment of the five-part "Nuestros Recuerdos" series from Clase Azul Tequila - a five-year program (2021-2025) dedicated to the most distinctive facets of Dia de Muertos. The 2022 Colores release is an Anejo tequila finished in casks of Martinique rhum agricole, the artisanal cane-juice rum distilled from fresh sugarcane on the French Caribbean island. Bottled at 80 proof / 40% ABV with a 100% organic Highland Blue Weber agave mash. Limited to 2,000 hand-numbered bottles worldwide.

Clase Azul Tequila is produced at Productos Finos de Agave (NOM 1416) in Jesus Maria, Los Altos de Jalisco - the Highland tequila region. Founded by Arturo Lomeli in 1997, Clase Azul is one of the most recognizable artisan tequila brands in the world, known as much for what's inside the bottle as for the bottle itself: each iconic hand-painted ceramic Clase Azul decanter is shaped, fired, and painted by hand by more than 100 artisans in the village of Santa Maria Canchesda, Mexico, and finished with platinum, silver, and 24-karat gold detail on the higher-end expressions.

The Clase Azul Dia de los Muertos series is the brand's annual hand-painted ceramic tribute to the Mexican Day of the Dead - Mexico's most iconic celebration of life, memory, and the cycle that connects the living and the departed. Each annual release carries a distinct decanter design, a specific tequila profile, and a small production run aimed squarely at collectors of Clase Azul limited editions.

The Colores theme honors the role of color in the Mexican Dia de Muertos celebration - the bright cempasuchil orange, the cobalt papel picado, the rainbow spectrum of sugar calaveras the celebration produces. The tequila itself was inspired by calaveritas de azucar (sugar skulls), and the rhum agricole cask finish draws out a sugarcane-driven sweetness that mirrors the calavera tradition. The ceramic decanter features a vivid base illustration of cempasuchil blossoms, papel picado, and sugar calaveritas, topped with a silver-plated artisanal ornament decorated with hand-applied colored enamels - a process that took roughly 12 days of work per bottle.

On the nose, it shows sugarcane juice, quince marmalade, dried fruit, toasted walnut, and almond. The palate brings candied orange peel, clove, walnut, and cacao, and the finish carries a long, dessert-leaning close with lingering rhum agricole character.
