Bardstown The Prisoner Batch 2 10 Year is a Straight Bourbon Whiskey from an undisclosed Tennessee distillery, blended and bottled at Bardstown Bourbon Company in Bardstown, Kentucky. Released in BBC's Collaborative Series as the second Prisoner Wine Co. finish, this 10-year Tennessee bourbon was finished for 18 months in French oak barrels that previously held The Prisoner red wine blend and bottled at 100 proof.
The base bourbon was distilled in Tennessee on a mash bill of 84% corn, 8% rye, and 8% malted barley, then matured 10 years before transfer to the wine casks. The Collaborative Series is BBC's line of finished bourbons sourced from partner distilleries and finished at the company's Bardstown facility, and this release stands as an award winner in the series.
Per Bardstown's tasting notes, on the nose, it shows a complex, welcoming bouquet of blackberry and black cherry blended with rich honey, vanilla, and baking spices. The palate brings hints of the original premium grape blend leading with a touch of sweetness, and the finish carries a ringing, balanced close.
An April 2021 limited release that has since sold through, this 100-proof Prisoner-finished bourbon is closely tracked by collectors of BBC's Collaborative Series. It drinks well neat, over a single large cube, or with a few drops of water to open the wine character.
