Bardstown Origin Series Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey 750ml is bottled at 96 proof (48% ABV) by Bardstown Bourbon Company in Bardstown, Kentucky, a six year old bourbon and the cornerstone of the Origin Series, the distillery's first line composed entirely of its own distillate. Launched in January 2023 after six years of patience, Origin marked the moment a company famous for masterful sourcing and blending finally poured a whiskey that was theirs from grain to glass.
The mash bill is a bold high-rye recipe of 60% corn, 36% rye, and 4% malted barley, distilled, aged, and bottled on the Bardstown campus. That 36% rye share, among the highest in mainstream Kentucky bourbon, was a deliberate statement: rather than debut with a safe, standard recipe, the team showcased the technical range of one of the most advanced distilleries in the country. The Origin launch also closed the chapter on the sourced-whiskey Fusion Series, retired in 2023 as house stocks came of age, a symbolic passing of the torch from sourced whiskey to estate distillate that the industry watched closely.
The brand describes apricot, orange blossom, and mint resting on caramel, nutmeg, and rich oak, with waves of cinnamon and vanilla carrying into a bold, lasting finish. At 96 proof and six years old, it drinks with more structure than its strength suggests, the rye spice keeping the barrel sweetness taut from the first sip through the close.
As the first fully estate-distilled bourbon from one of the most consequential distilleries founded this century, the Origin Series bourbon carries a significance beyond its specs: it is the baseline expression against which every future Bardstown Bourbon Company release will be measured. Early bottlings of a foundational line have a way of becoming reference points, and this six year, 96 proof original is precisely that, a keystone bottle for anyone charting the company's evolution.
