George T. Stagg 2002 is a landmark technical achievement that debuted as the inaugural bottling of the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection (BTAC). Distilled at the Buffalo Trace Distillery (DSP-KY-113), this expression was produced from the distillery's Mashbill #1 and carries a potent 137.6 proof. The spirit underwent 15 years of maturation in new charred American white oak barrels, with the specific lot numbers and warehouse locations predating the modern technical reporting now standard for the series.
Bottled uncut and unfiltered, this 2002 release was created in response to consumer demand for high-proof, well-aged whiskey. The technical profile is defined by an extreme concentration of esters and wood sugars, resulting in a dense, oily structural framework characterized by hot brown sugar, clove, and dark cherry flambé.
