Wild Turkey 12 Year Old "Gold Foil" is a 101 proof (50.5% ABV) vintage Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey distilled in 1990 at the Wild Turkey Distillery in Lawrenceburg. This expression utilizes the classic mash bill of 75% corn, 13% rye, and 12% malted barley. Maturation took place in heavy #4 "alligator" charred American white oak barrels, aged for a minimum of 12 years in traditional timber-frame rickhouses.
The technical profile is defined by the "dusty" era production methods, including lower barrel entry proofs and the specific yeast strains utilized by Jimmy Russell during this period. The long-term interaction with the char layer and the natural seasonal temperature fluctuations in Kentucky resulted in a highly concentrated concentration of esters and wood sugars.
