Woodford Reserve Master's Collection Cherry Wood Smoked Barley is a 90.4 Proof (45.2% ABV) highly innovative, limited-edition smoking experiment produced by Woodford Reserve Distillery. Released in late 2017 as the twelfth installment in the collection, this whiskey drastically alters traditional bourbon grain ratios by running a heavily malt-forward mash bill consisting of 70% corn and 30% malted barley.
The key technical element focuses on the barley, which was exposed to active cherry wood smoke during the kilning phase to halt grain germination. Triple pot-distilled at the Versailles facility, the liquid spent years in standard new charred oak containers inside stone masonry warehouses. This specific processing climate infuses the distillate with unique structural notes of smoked almond, rich cherry pie filling, dark chocolate, and toasted pecan crumbles.
