Bardstown Copper & Kings Oloroso Sherry is a Straight Bourbon Whiskey from an undisclosed Indiana distillery, blended and bottled at Bardstown Bourbon Company in Bardstown, Kentucky. Released in BBC's Collaborative Series, this 12 year Indiana-distilled bourbon was finished for 18 months in Spanish Oloroso sherry casks provided by Louisville's Copper & Kings brandy distillery and bottled at 100 proof.
The base bourbon was distilled in Indiana on a high-rye mash bill of 60% corn, 36% rye, and 4% malted barley, then matured 12 years before transfer to the Oloroso casks. The Collaborative Series is BBC's line of finished bourbons sourced from partner distilleries and finished at the company's Bardstown facility, and this release stands as an award winner within the series.
Per Bardstown's tasting notes, on the nose, it shows classic sherry notes of raisin and fig balanced with bursts of candied orange and baking spice. The palate brings a dry, complex profile of cedar and campfire, and the finish carries ripe dates with subtle spice.
A limited 2020 release that has since sold through, this 100-proof Oloroso-finished bourbon is closely tracked by collectors of BBC's Collaborative Series. It drinks well neat, over a single large cube, or with a few drops of water to open the sherry character.
