2021 Atomique 3 Le Basalt Eola-Amity Hills is a limited Chardonnay release bottled at 13.5% ABV by the Atomique³ project in the Willamette Valley, Oregon. This collaborative venture brings together winemaker Felipe Ramirez, terroir expert Pedro Parra, and Burgundy’s Jean-Marc Roulot. The 100% Chardonnay fruit is sourced from a small parcel in the Eola Springs Vineyard. The geology consists of a shallow 35-centimeter layer of silty red clay sitting directly over dense, fractured volcanic basalt, forcing the roots to dig deep for nutrients.
Following the team's low-intervention philosophy, the juice underwent a traditional Burgundian ferment and an initial 18 months of barrel élevage. The wine then completed a subsequent 9 to 10 months of extended aging in stainless steel tanks prior to bottling. This extended dual-phase maturation structuralizes severe acid tension, vibrant tart orchard fruits, herbal lifts, and a highly persistent, crystalline volcanic minerality.
