Cascahuin House of Rare PX Sherry Finished is a Reposado Tequila from Tequila Cascahuin in El Arenal, Jalisco, Mexico. This release was aged exactly six months in rare Pedro Ximenez Sherry casks and bottled at 88 proof, additive-free.
The House of Rare program brings Cascahuin's production methods - 100 percent Blue Weber agave slow-cooked in traditional masonry ovens, roller mill extraction, open-air stainless steel fermentation, and copper pot still double distillation - into contact with single ex-PX Sherry casks. The result is a Reposado at the dark, viscous end of the category, with the PX cask pulling color and dried-fruit weight deeper than typical American oak Reposados. The release was originally restricted to the Mexico market.
On the nose, it shows sweet roasted agave layered with raisins and dried figs. The palate brings rich viscous body, sweet agave, raisin, fig, and dark caramel from the PX cask, balanced by the distillery's signature volcanic minerality, and the finish carries a long, fruit-driven close.
The PX Sherry cask gives Cascahuin's Reposado an almost Anejo-like depth despite only six months in wood. It drinks well neat or over a single large cube.
