The Macallan Colour Collection 21 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky 700ml (ABV varies; see bottle label) represents deep maturity within the Colour Collection, the five-expression age-statement series The Macallan Distillery of Craigellachie, Speyside launched into global travel retail in August 2023. More than two decades in sherry-seasoned oak carry this single malt Scotch whisky into rarer territory, where the fresh citrus of youth gives way to tropical fruit and the whisky's warm bronze colour testifies to time, entirely naturally.

The recipe holds true to the series: American oak casks seasoned with sherry wine in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain, enriched with delicate whispers of European oak. The Macallan credits its exceptional casks with up to 80 percent of a whisky's flavour and the entirety of its natural colour, and after 21 years that influence is profound. Casks crafted and seasoned in Andalusian cooperages and bodegas travel to The Macallan Estate at Easter Elchies on Speyside, then give up their character slowly across the decades of maturation.

The nose is lavish: creme brulee, candied orange and lemon, sweet aged oak and caramelised pineapple. The palate moves through tropical fruits, candied ginger, coffee creme and hazelnuts into dark chocolate orange and cardamom, with warm spice, vanilla pod and chocolate orange defining the whisky's signature. This is the point in the range where the tropical notes Master Whisky Maker Kirsteen Campbell promises in the older expressions fully emerge, presented at natural colour in a 700ml bottling.

Graphic designer David Carson expressed the 21 Year Old in darker earth tones layered with creamy yellow, an irregular frame and textured paper cuts mirroring the complexity of the whisky within, while dominant chalky white evokes the albariza soils where the sherry journey begins. As the penultimate age in the series, the 21 Year Old bridges the classic 18 and the crowning 30, and its deep maturity makes it one of the most significant bottles for collectors tracing the full spectrum of The Macallan's natural colour.
