Macallan 1824 Series Gold Single Malt Scotch Whisky 750ml

Macallan Gold arrived in 2012 as the opening statement of the 1824 Series, a quartet of single malts named Gold, Amber, Sienna, and Ruby for the natural colours their casks imparted. The range marked a bold pivot for the famed Speyside distillery, setting aside age statements in favour of a philosophy built entirely on wood, colour, and character.

True to that idea, Gold carries no age statement, though the whiskies within were drawn from first-fill and refill sherry-seasoned oak casks holding malt matured between roughly nine and fifteen years. Every shade of its bright golden hue comes from the cask alone; no colouring is ever added, in keeping with The Macallan's natural colour commitment.

The house describes a lively, elegant dram at 40% ABV: lemon citrus and floral notes on the nose, vanilla and dried-fruit sweetness through the palate, and a lightly spiced, gently oaked finish. It is The Macallan at its most approachable, yet unmistakably shaped by Jerez sherry oak from start to end.

The 1824 Series was retired in 2018, and Gold has since grown into a sought-after collectible, with original bottlings becoming scarcer every year. Provenance and care matter accordingly: keep the bottle upright, sealed, and away from light and temperature swings to protect both the whisky inside and its long-term appeal to collectors of discontinued Macallan.
