Le Breuil Origine French Single Malt Whisky comes from Château du Breuil, the storied Normandy estate that has distilled Calvados AOC Pays d'Auge since 1954 within a château preserved for over four centuries. Turning its apple-brandy mastery toward barley, the house has emerged as one of France's most compelling new voices in single malt.

Origine is built on a purist's premise: it is made entirely from Golden Promise, the heritage barley variety revered in Scotland for the dense, silky malt character it gave classic Macallan-era whiskies. The grain is sourced from a small handful of partner farms, then mashed, fermented and distilled at the estate in the heart of the Pays d'Auge countryside.

Maturation draws on a distinctly French cask recipe — virgin French oak, ex-bourbon barrels and casks that previously held Martell Blue Swift — before bottling at 92 proof (46% ABV). The nose offers peach, pear and hazelnut wrapped in crisp malt; the palate adds almond, vanilla, linseed and stone fruit, finishing long, silky and quietly oaked.

Norman terroir gives this malt a gentler, orchard-inflected personality than its Scottish counterparts, making it a fascinating pour for single malt devotees and Francophile spirits lovers alike.
