Glenmorangie Artein Private Edition 15 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky is the third release in Glenmorangie's Private Edition series, launched in 2012 and bottled at 92 proof (46% ABV). Produced at Glenmorangie Distillery in Tain, in the Scottish Highlands, this limited annual release carries a 15-year age statement and showcases the experimental wood work that defines the Private Edition line.

Artein takes its name from the Gaelic for stone, a deliberate echo of its finishing casks: barrels that previously held Sassicaia, the famed Super Tuscan wine whose own name derives from sasso, Italian for stone. After initial maturation in American oak, the whisky was extra-matured in those Tuscan wine casks, absorbing dark fruit and spice from the wine-soaked wood. The program was directed by Dr Bill Lumsden, Glenmorangie's Director of Distilling and Whisky Creation and one of the industry's most decorated innovators in cask management. Lumsden has long treated the Private Edition series as his personal laboratory, and Artein ranks among its most wine-forward experiments.

The result carries Glenmorangie's elegant Highland house character, built on the tall giraffe-height stills that produce Scotland's most delicate new-make spirit, into richer territory. Expect orchard fruit and vanilla lifted from American oak, layered with peach, apricot, ginger and dark berried fruit from the Sassicaia wood, with a mouth-coating texture and spice through the finish. With its 15-year age statement, Artein also offers more declared maturity than most entries in a series that frequently carried no age statement at all.

The Private Edition series, released once a year from 2010 to 2019, has become one of the most collected modern runs in Highland whisky, and Artein is its wine-cask chapter. Long since retired, this 2012 bottling stands as an early example of the prestige wine-cask finishing that Dr Lumsden later brought to wider acclaim, and it holds a natural place in any collection tracing the series from Sonnalta through Signet-era Glenmorangie innovation.
