Glenfiddich Grand Chateau 31 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky is the French chapter of the distillery's ultra-luxury Grand series, following the path set by Grand Cru and Grande Couronne. It is the first Glenfiddich ever finished in Bordeaux red wine casks, and the finishing was no brief flourish: the whisky spent an extraordinary nine years in the French wine barriques after its initial maturation.

The spirit first ages in a combination of American and European oak, developing three decades of orchard fruit, honey and layered oak complexity. The long Bordeaux finish then paints over that canvas with candied cherry, toffee apple and toasted oak, underpinned by the warming spice that runs through the distillery's long-aged releases. ABV varies by market release. The launch edition was created with celebrated French artist Andre Saraiva, whose work adorns the presentation.

In the glass, expect a deep red-gold color and a nose of macerated cherries, plum and polished wood. The palate weaves wine-soaked dark fruit through honeyed malt and clove, and the finish is exceptionally long and fruity, echoing the claret casks to the last. It is unmistakably Glenfiddich, dressed in Bordeaux velvet.

Releases in the Grand series are produced in strictly limited quantities, and a 31-year age statement wrapped in a nine-year wine finish makes this among the most distinctive of them all.
