The Year of the Ram arrived in 2015 wrapped in one of the most graceful designs ever placed around Johnnie Walker's flagship blend. This limited edition of Blue Label was an early release in the house's annual Lunar New Year series, the collection that pairs Scotland's most celebrated luxury Scotch with the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac. For collectors it marks the moment the series found its rhythm: one animal, one year, one commemorative bottle, never to be repeated.
The bottle wears a deep royal blue inspired by classical Chinese pottery, a shade that echoes the label's own signature color. Across the glass, the ram appears three times in the manner of a traditional ink painting, a composition drawn from the Book of Changes in which three rams together announce a new year of great fortune. Set four bottles side by side and the artwork resolves into one continuous scene, unfolding like a Chinese scroll painting.
Inside is Johnnie Walker Blue Label itself, the blend built from casks so scarce that only about one in ten thousand in the company's reserves meets the standard. Under longtime Master Blender Jim Beveridge, parcels of rare grain and malt whisky, including stock from long-silent distilleries, were married into a Scotch of unusual depth. Expect a velvety texture layered with honey, hazelnut and dried fruit, a wave of sherried richness, and a long, softly smoking finish.
