Sazerac 18 Year Old 2005 Release marks a technical milestone as the inaugural bottling from the legendary 1985 distillation lot. This spirit is widely rumored to have been produced at either the Old Bernheim Distillery or George T. Stagg Distillery during a transitionary period in Kentucky rye production. After maturing for 18 years in new charred American white oak, the liquid reached its peak flavor profile in 2003 and was transferred into stainless steel vats.
This vatting process arrested all further wood interaction, effectively "freezing" the spirit to ensure profile consistency for every annual release from 2005 through 2015. Bottled at 90 proof, this 2005 edition offers the most vibrant window into this vatted master batch, characterized by a high-viscosity structural framework of herbal mint, citrus zest, and allspice, underpinned by the dense, resinous sweetness of nearly two decades of primary wood aging.
