Sazerac 18 Year Old 2000 First Release is the foundational rye expression of the inaugural Buffalo Trace Antique Collection. Distilled in 1981-1982, this landmark spirit was rumored to be produced at the either the Old Bernheim Distillery or George T. Stagg Distillery before being matured for 18 years in new charred American white oak. The technical data for this release is significant, recording a massive evaporation loss that concentrated the liquid into a dense, oily structural framework.
This vintage is particularly prized by collectors as the only release confirmed by Buffalo Trace to be distilled in 1981, prior to the "tanking" era that defined the series from 2003 to 2015. Bottled at a steady 90 proof, the profile is characterized by an intense saturation of savory spices, stone fruits, and antique leather, offering a technical showcase of early-80s Kentucky rye production.
