The Legent Yamazaki Cask Finish Blend Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is the rarest expression yet from whiskey's most celebrated transpacific partnership — a limited 2023 release that, for the first time, sent Kentucky bourbon to Japan to be finished and blended at the legendary Yamazaki Distillery itself. Where the standard Legent brought Japanese blending philosophy to Kentucky, this edition completes the journey in the other direction, and it arrives at a commanding 114 proof.

The collaboration pairs two towering figures: Fred Noe, seventh-generation Jim Beam Master Distiller, and Shinji Fukuyo, only the fifth Chief Blender in the history of the House of Suntory. Noe's contribution is Kentucky straight bourbon aged eight years in the Beam tradition; Fukuyo's is what happens next. At Yamazaki, on the outskirts of Kyoto, the bourbon was divided among French oak wine casks, Spanish oak sherry casks, and — most remarkably — Spanish oak casks that previously matured Yamazaki Single Malt, the flagship of Japanese whisky.

The result drinks like a conversation between traditions. Classic Beam caramel, vanilla, and toasted oak arrive first, then the finishing casks layer in dried fruit, red-wine depth, sherried richness, and the subtle incense-like elegance that Yamazaki wood imparts, all carried on a full 57% ABV frame that rewards a few drops of water. It is unmistakably bourbon, yet shaped by a cellar palate no Kentucky rickhouse could replicate.

Released in limited quantities across only a handful of markets, this bottling stands as a collector's bridge between the bourbon world and Japanese whisky's most famous house — a bottle that belongs equally in a Beam vertical or a Suntory collection. Pour it neat in a proper glass, revisit it as it opens, and taste what eight Kentucky years and a Kyoto finishing school produce together.
