A single-barrel, limited-quantity release matured for at least a decade in new charred American white oak, the 2016 edition was approved for an April 2016 release by Master Distiller Willie "Dr. No" Pratt.
Pratt earned his "Dr. No" nickname for refusing to release a barrel until it hit its sweet spot, putting blinders on any release schedule. "I love our 10 Year Bourbon and wish we could sell it year-round, but we just don't have enough," he said of the release — a candid summary of why the expression is so tightly allocated. Each barrel was hand-selected, proofed to the brand's traditional 94.4, and chill-filtered, with every single cask required to meet Michter's rigorous standards on its own.
2016 was a pivotal year for Michter's: the same year, Pamela Heilmann became the first woman to serve as Master Distiller at a Kentucky Distillers' Association distillery since Prohibition, succeeding Pratt. Named "Best American Whiskey" by Food & Wine, the 10 Year Single Barrel remains one of the most sought-after age-stated bourbons in American whiskey.
