The 2018 Michter's 10 Year Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is bottled at 94.4 proof (47.2% ABV) by Michter's in Louisville, Kentucky. A single-barrel, limited-quantity release matured for at least a decade in new charred American white oak, the 2018 edition arrived in April 2018, approved by Master Distiller Pamela Heilmann after she sampled barrels with Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson.
At Michter's, the Master Distiller holds the "Dr. No" position — ultimate authority to approve every release — and Heilmann earned that role in 2016 as the first woman to lead distillation at a Kentucky Distillers' Association distillery since Prohibition. Working barrel by barrel with Wilson, she selected only the bourbon judged fully matured, then had it proofed to the traditional 94.4 and chill-filtered. Because it is a true single barrel, every cask had to stand on its own merits against Michter's rigorous standards.
Michter's releases its 10 Year Bourbon only when the whiskey is ready rather than on a set calendar, which keeps each annual run small and highly allocated. Named "Best American Whiskey" by Food & Wine, the 10 Year Single Barrel is among the most sought-after age-stated bourbons in American whiskey. The 2018 release carries Michter's signature big, bold profile of dark toffee and caramel, charred oak, maple syrup, and vanilla — proof that richness does not require high proof. With American whiskey heritage dating to 1753, Michter's has built one of the most admired reputations in the category, and its 10 Year Bourbon is produced in only small annual quantities.
