The 2019 Michter's Celebration Sour Mash Whiskey is the third release of Michter's rarest and most prestigious expression, bottled at 115.6 proof (57.8% ABV) and limited to just 277 bottles worldwide. It is a blend of Kentucky Straight Bourbon and Kentucky Straight Rye drawn from six extraordinary barrels — two bourbon and four rye — ranging from over a decade to over 30 years old. The 2019 edition was the first Celebration Sour Mash created under Master Distiller Dan McKee, who selected the barrels in consultation with Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson.
Released only about once every three years, Celebration is the rarest and most prestigious whiskey Michter's makes — a barrel-strength blend of the distillery's oldest and most extraordinary Kentucky Straight Bourbon and Kentucky Straight Rye barrels. When the inaugural edition arrived in 2013, it marked the first time an American company had offered a rare blend intended to rival the finest spirits made anywhere in the world, helping to launch the ultra-luxury tier of American whiskey.
Michter's continues the legacy of a company that traces its roots to 1753 and the original Shenk's distillery, and it stands today among the most admired names in American whiskey. Because each Celebration is assembled from only a handful of irreplaceable barrels and released in tiny quantities, it ranks among the most coveted and collectible American whiskeys ever produced. As Dan McKee's first Celebration as Master Distiller and one of the smallest releases in the series at just 277 bottles, the 2019 is a milestone vintage and a true trophy for collectors of ultra-rare American whiskey. Because Celebration blends straight bourbon and straight rye, it cannot legally be called either and instead carries the broader Sour Mash Whiskey designation.
