The 2013 Michter's Celebration Sour Mash Whiskey is the inaugural release of Michter's most prestigious and rarest expression, bottled at 112.4 proof (56.2% ABV) and released in December 2013. It is a blend of Kentucky Straight Bourbon and Kentucky Straight Rye drawn from just seven extraordinary barrels — three bourbon and four rye, with the youngest whiskey over 12 years old and the oldest over 30 — hand-selected by Michter's Master Distiller Willie "Dr. No" Pratt and limited to only 273 bottles.

Released only about once every three years, Celebration is the rarest and most prestigious whiskey Michter's makes — a barrel-strength blend of the distillery's oldest and most extraordinary Kentucky Straight Bourbon and Kentucky Straight Rye barrels. When the inaugural edition arrived in 2013, it marked the first time an American company had offered a rare blend intended to rival the finest spirits made anywhere in the world, helping to launch the ultra-luxury tier of American whiskey.

Michter's continues the legacy of a company that traces its roots to 1753 and the original Shenk's distillery, and it stands today among the most admired names in American whiskey. Because each Celebration is assembled from only a handful of irreplaceable barrels and released in tiny quantities, it ranks among the most coveted and collectible American whiskeys ever produced. As the bottling that started it all — the first-ever Celebration and a watershed moment in American whiskey history — the 2013 is a foundational, almost unobtainable collector's bottle and the cornerstone of the entire series. Because Celebration blends straight bourbon and straight rye, it cannot legally be called either and instead carries the broader Sour Mash Whiskey designation — a fitting name for this one-of-a-kind marriage of Michter's two flagship grains. With only 273 bottles ever made, surviving examples of the inaugural edition are among the hardest to acquire in all of American whiskey.
