Maker's Mark 2021 Red Keeneland, 90 Proof, is a specialized 1-liter commemorative allocation distilled at DSP-KY-44 and released as part of a landmark three-bottle philanthropic set. This edition features a custom label by artist Sandra Oppegard, whose equine artwork honors the legendary African American jockey Isaac Burns Murphy. The bottle serves as a primary fundraising vehicle for LexArts, with proceeds specifically dedicated to the permanent installation of the Isaac Murphy Memorial Art Garden in Lexington, Kentucky.
The liquid is a wheated bourbon (70/16/14 mash bill) matured in air-seasoned American white oak. Because these commemorative barrels are pulled from the distillery's "center-cut" warehouse locations, the maturation climate produces a balanced extraction of wood sugars, resulting in a palate-forward profile of creamy vanilla, toasted caramel, and soft oak tannins without the bite of traditional rye spice.
