Cascahuin Extra Anejo is an Extra Anejo Tequila from Tequila Cascahuin in El Arenal, Jalisco, Mexico. This release is aged four years in heavily used American oak barrels - roughly fifteen-year-old ex-bourbon casks - then bottled at 86 proof, additive-free.
Cascahuin Extra Anejo is the first aged expression the Rosales family released onto US shelves, debuting in 2018 from the family-run NOM 1123 distillery established in 1904. The release uses 100 percent Blue Weber agave grown in the Tequila Valley, traditional brick-oven cooking, and double distillation in copper pot stills - the same fundamentals that have anchored Cascahuin's process for more than a century.
On the nose, it shows cooked agave, vanilla, dried fruit, and gentle oak. The palate brings layered caramel, baking spice, dried fig, and soft tannin from the well-tempered ex-bourbon casks, and the finish carries a long, dry oak close balanced by lingering agave sweetness.
The choice of heavily used, broken-in American oak keeps the aged character integrated rather than wood-dominant, letting the agave still read through four years of maturation. It drinks well neat or over a single large cube.
