The Willett Family Estate 8 Year Old Single Barrel Straight Bourbon Whiskey brings eight-year Kentucky bourbon to full barrel-proof expression — a single cask per bottling, sealed in purple and numbered bottle by bottle, from the family-owned Willett Distillery in Bardstown. Because every cask is bottled at its own natural strength, no two releases at this age statement are quite alike: each barrel emerges at its own proof, carries its own barrel number, and both are printed on the label of the bottle in hand.

At eight years, Willett bourbon crosses into genuine maturity: barrel-proof whiskey where oak, brown sugar, and leather have settled over the estate recipes' foundations. The house publishes two bourbon mash bills — 72% corn/13% rye/15% malted barley and a high-rye 52% corn/38% rye/10% malted barley, both entering the barrel at 125 proof — and a single barrel carries one of them through eight Kentucky summers, gaining or shedding proof according to its spot in the warehouse. The label reports what the barrel decided.

That barrel-first philosophy is the family's oldest habit. Willett was established in 1936 and rolled its first barrel into Warehouse A by St. Patrick's Day 1937; when the stills went quiet, Even Kulsveen's Kentucky Bourbon Distillers era — beginning in 1984 — kept the name alive by finding and bottling the best barrels in Kentucky. Since 2012 the family has distilled again on the home property, and Whisky Advocate counts the Family Estate label, born in 2008, among the most coveted in American whiskey.
