Thirteenth Colony 113 Maple Wood Spirals Straight Bourbon Whiskey is a 113 proof (56.5% ABV) small-batch release built around a single idea: finishing mature Georgia bourbon on toasted maple wood spirals inserted directly into the barrel. The spiral cut multiplies the wood surface in contact with the spirit, pulling maple sweetness into the bourbon far faster than a conventional finishing barrel could.
The base whiskey comes off a mash bill of 70% corn, 21% rye, and 9% malted barley and spends four to six years in new charred American oak in Americus, Georgia. The South Georgia climate does heavy lifting here — sustained heat and humidity drive the spirit deep into the char, so the bourbon arrives at its maple finishing stage already dense with caramelized oak.
The 113 designation marks the bottling strength the distillers settled on as the sweet spot for this profile: high enough to carry the concentrated maple and pecan character, low enough to drink neat without water. This bourbon launched the 113 series, and its reception led directly to a maple-spiral straight rye counterpart the following year.
Expect warm maple syrup and toasted pecan out front, backed by vanilla bean, brown sugar, and baking spice, with charred oak and a faint smokiness holding the sweetness in line through a long finish. It pours viscous and rich, and it makes an emphatic old fashioned for drinkers who like the wood turned up.
