The whiskey begins as the distillery's classic rye, then takes an extended detour through fresh toasted wood that layers on dessert-like richness without burying the grain's natural spice. The result is one of the deepest, most polished expressions in the Baltimore producer's core range.

The process runs in two stages. The rye first matures four to five years in high-char new American oak barrels, building its foundation of vanilla and baking spice. It is then transferred into custom wave-stave barrels, whose rippled, toasted interior staves expose more wood surface to the spirit, where it rests for roughly eighteen additional months.

Those toasted staves are the engine of the flavor. Toasting, rather than charring, coaxes out caramelized sugars and nutty compounds, giving Double Oak its signature toffee, hazelnut, and toasted-coconut character. Before bottling at 96.6 proof, the whiskey is cut with limestone-filtered spring water drawn from a Maryland spring house dating to 1909, a finishing touch that keeps the texture soft and round.

The nose leads with toasted oak, cinnamon, and dried orange peel. On the palate, caramel and toasted coconut fold into vanilla, hazelnut, and pecan, with gentle rye spice keeping the sweetness honest. The finish is long and warm, trailing oak sugars and spice.
