Smoke Wagon is the brainchild of Aaron Chepenik, the Las Vegas bar owner who built Nevada H&C Distilling Co. into one of the most talked-about names in American whiskey. Working from downtown Las Vegas, the team sources well-aged Indiana distillate and applies obsessive blending standards, a formula that has earned Smoke Wagon a devoted following far beyond the Nevada desert.
Every summer, the distillery marks Independence Day with a special patriotic release, and the 4th of July Edition has become one of its most anticipated annual traditions. Each year brings a fresh blend and a fresh look, making the series a favorite of collectors who line up for every new installment of red, white, and blue.
The 2025 edition arrives at 92.5 proof, or 46.25 percent alcohol by volume, dressed in a striking tri-color presentation built for backyard celebrations. The proof point hits a sweet spot: lively enough to carry real bourbon character, easy enough to pour generously while the fireworks are still going.
Expect rich caramel and toasted oak on the nose, followed by a palate of deep caramel, ripe orchard fruit, and subtle spice that keeps every sip interesting. The finish is smooth and warming, tailor-made for summer evenings. Serve it neat, over ice, or in a star-spangled whiskey lemonade.
