The 2015 Yellowstone Limited Edition Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is the debut release of Limestone Branch Distillery's annual Limited Edition series — a 105 proof (52.5% ABV) marriage of 7-year rye-recipe, 7-year wheated, and 12-year rye-recipe Kentucky straight bourbons, limited to just 6,000 bottles.
Distiller Steve Beam, a seventh-generation member of the Beam and Dant whiskey families, hand-selected the components through the brand's partnership with Luxco, including prized 12-year “honey barrels.” His technique was unusual: after dumping the 12-year bourbon, he re-entered the 7-year bourbon into those freshly emptied barrels, drawing out the cinnamon, caramel, and smoky depth the older casks had built over a dozen years. Some components were chill-filtered and some were not, adding another layer of texture to the final blend.
Even the proof tells a family story. The 105 proof commemorates the 105th anniversary of Minor Case Beam — Steve Beam's great-grandfather — selling his Old Trump Distillery to Joseph Bernard Dant in 1910, the union that first bound the two families to the Yellowstone name. The whiskey launched at the Kentucky Bourbon Festival in Bardstown in September 2015 before reaching shelves that October.
A note on the age: this release is often listed as a 7-year-old bourbon after its youngest components, but the blend also carries 12-year stock — it drinks older than the number suggests. As the first chapter of a series that has continued every year since, the 2015 Limited Edition holds a place no later release can claim: the bottle that returned Yellowstone to the Beam family's hands and set the annual tradition in motion. In the decade that followed, the series would explore Armagnac, Amarone, Marsala Superiore, and Tokaji casks, but 2015 set the template: extra-aged Kentucky straight bourbon, a family signature, and a deliberately small run. For collectors of the series, this is the cornerstone bottle.
