Very Old Barton has been a Bardstown staple since the 1940s, produced at what is now the Barton 1792 Distillery, the oldest fully operating distillery in the town that calls itself the Bourbon Capital of the World. Owned today by Sazerac, the plant draws its water from the Tom Moore Spring and matures whiskey in traditional rickhouses spread across its historic grounds.

This bottling carries a six-year age statement and is distilled from a mash of roughly 75 percent corn, 15 percent rye and 10 percent malted barley. Six Kentucky summers in new charred oak give it more maturity than most bourbons at its tier, and the 86 proof strength keeps the oak assertive without ever turning hot on the tongue.

The pour shows a tawny amber color and a lean, gently woody nose of caramel corn and light orchard fruit. The palate is medium-bodied and firm, moving through toffee and baking spice into a drying oak character before a warm, dry finish. It is a traditional Kentucky profile, made the same way for decades on end.

The 1.75-liter format is the practical pick for bourbon drinkers who reach for the same pour daily: an honest, fully aged straight bourbon for highballs, old fashioneds and neat glasses alike. Devotion to this label across Kentucky runs generations deep, and one taste explains why.
