The Whistler French Oak 10 Year Old is a small-batch single malt Irish whiskey bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill filtered and natural in color. A full decade in first-use American oak bourbon casks builds the honeyed, full-bodied core, before the spirit moves into French oak for the finishing period that gives this expression both its name and its distinctive twin-character profile.

Those finishing barrels began life holding Bordeaux wine, then passed through the N.E.O.C. process, in which staves are shaved and re-toasted to expose virgin oak beneath the wine-seasoned surface. The technique lets fresh new-oak spice develop alongside the dried-fruit and blackcurrant tones inherited from the barrel's claret lineage, so the finish reads as wine cask and virgin oak at once.

The Whistler is crafted at Boann Distillery in Drogheda, County Meath, an independent family venture founded by the Cooney family in Ireland's historic Boyne Valley. Named for Boann, river goddess of Irish myth, the distillery has built its reputation on ambitious cask programs applied to classically made malt and pot still spirit, and this ten-year-old single malt anchors the heart of that range.

On the nose, velvety honey meets poached pear, stewed fruit and blackcurrant. The palate brings vanilla, toffee and baking spice with flourishes of pastry and white chocolate, and the finish is long, warming and framed by layered French oak. Serve it neat, or add a single drop of water to open the orchard fruit and let the spice settle. Small-batch production keeps volumes limited, and the 46% strength was chosen to carry the finish without filtration stripping texture.
