Paying direct homage to the founding roots of the distillery, the 1700 Series honors the exact year that the iconic Easter Elchies House—the physical and spiritual heart of the Easter Elchies estate—was built on the banks of the River Spey. Long since discontinued, the Chairman's Release has achieved mythical status among modern spirits connoisseurs as a benchmark piece from Macallan’s early-2000s legacy.
The liquid within is an absolute masterclass in traditional Speyside wood chemistry, blended from some of the most exceptional and deeply aged stock resting in the distillery's inventory. Masterfully composed from a selection of hand-picked premium oak casks, this expression leans heavily into first-fill European oak seasoned with rich Oloroso sherry from Jerez, Spain. Because it was distilled utilizing Macallan's famous, uniquely small copper spirit stills, the oilier, heavier distillate has absorbed a tremendous amount of structural oak character over its lengthy maturation. This creates a vastly deeper, more unctuous texture than what is commonly found in modern, high-volume single malts.
The presentation is as spectacular as the single malt itself. The whisky is housed in a magnificent, heavy-weight 700ml decanter designed by Allied Glass and manufactured from pristine, superior flint Gicel Glass.
