Bottled in Bond is the oldest consumer-protection standard in American whiskey, written into law in 1897 when Congress decided drinkers deserved a guarantee of what was in the bottle. To earn the designation, a whiskey must come from one distillery and one distilling season, mature at least four years in a federally bonded warehouse, and be bottled at exactly 100 proof.
Smoke Wagon Bottled in Bond Straight Rye Whiskey meets every one of those requirements. The rye was distilled in Indiana from a mash of 51 percent rye, 45 percent corn, and 4 percent malted barley, then aged a minimum of four years under bond before bottling for the Nevada-based brand. It is rye made the old, honest way, with the paperwork to prove it.
That 45 percent corn content matters in the glass. It rounds the grain's natural bite into something sweeter and more bourbon-adjacent than austere high-rye recipes, while the 100-proof standard provides exactly the concentration a great rye needs, assertive without requiring a fire extinguisher.
Look for caramel and vanilla up front, followed by classic rye spice, seasoned oak, and a clean peppery finish that snaps into focus. This is the bottle to reach for when a Manhattan or Old Fashioned needs a spine, and it holds its own neat after dinner just as confidently.
