The Hibiki Aritayaki Ceramic Decanter 30 Year Old is a limited release from the House of Suntory. This expression is notable for its presentation in a handcrafted Aritayaki porcelain vessel, a traditional Japanese ceramic style. The release is part of a series that highlights the intersection of Japanese spirits production and traditional artisanal crafts.
The whisky itself is a blend consisting of malt and grain whiskies sourced from the Yamazaki, Hakushu, and Chita distilleries. These components have been aged for a minimum of thirty years. The maturation process involved various cask types, including American white oak, European Sherry butts, and Mizunara (Japanese oak). It is bottled at 43% alcohol by volume (86 proof) and is non-chill filtered, which preserves the natural oils and texture of the aged spirits.
The flavor profile of this 30-year-old blend is characterized by the influence of long-term oak maturation. The aroma typically features notes of dried fruits such as figs and plums, alongside the distinct sandalwood and incense qualities associated with Mizunara oak. On the palate, the whisky displays layers of brown sugar, gingerbread, and baking spices, leading to a finish marked by oak tannins and leather notes.
