Glenmorangie Signet Single Malt Scotch Whisky is the flagship prestige expression from Glenmorangie Distillery in Tain, in the Scottish Highlands, bottled at 92 proof (46% ABV) without chill filtration. First released in 2008, Signet carries no age statement by design: it is a marriage of some of the distillery's rarest and oldest stocks with a spirit unlike anything else in Scotch whisky. Rather than chasing a number on a label, Signet is built around flavor architecture, marrying components of different characters and ages into one composed whole.

Signet's signature innovation is its use of high-roast chocolate barley malt, a dark-kilned grain far better known in craft brewing than in distilling. Dr Bill Lumsden, Glenmorangie's Director of Distilling and Whisky Creation, conceived the whisky as a liquid evocation of freshly brewed Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee, pairing the roasted malt spirit with whisky made from Cadboll estate barley and maturing components in bespoke casks that include virgin charred oak. It was a radical idea for Scotch whisky when Lumsden first trialed it, and it has never been widely imitated.

The result drinks like dessert and espresso in the same glass. Per the distillery, Signet unfolds with dark chocolate, intense espresso, hazelnut cream and orange zest, moving through chocolate truffle, toffee and treacle toward a long, mocha-rich finish. The velvet texture and roasted depth stand in deliberate contrast to Glenmorangie's famously delicate house style, born of the tallest stills in Scotland.
