Bourbon de Luxe 8 Years Old Cask Strength revives one of Kentucky whiskey's great lost names. Created in the early 1900s by Fort Worth whiskey merchant Milton Eppstein and acquired in 1926 by the R.E. Wathen Co., Bourbon de Luxe went on to become a staple of National Distillers before passing to Jim Beam in 1987 and fading from shelves in the early 2000s.

The revival comes from Turner Wathen and Jordan Morris, founders of Rolling Fork Spirits — and in Wathen's case, a descendant of the very bourbon family that owned the label a century ago. Rather than trade on the name alone, they filled it with serious whiskey: fully matured Kentucky straight bourbon sourced from a Bardstown distillery and bottled with no dilution.

To be clear, this is a modern small-batch release rather than a vintage bottling: the label is historic, while the whiskey inside is freshly bottled eight-year stock at a cask strength of 119 proof (59.5% ABV). Batches are measured in hundreds of bottles rather than thousands, each dressed in the brand's revived early-1900s trade dress.

In the glass it delivers what eight Kentucky years at full strength should: caramel, vanilla cream, and orange peel sweetness up front, balanced by seasoned oak, light pepper, and a sturdy, warming finish. It rewards a slow neat pour, and it stands up beautifully in an old fashioned when the occasion calls for one.
