In 1984, Buffalo Trace's legendary master distiller Elmer T. Lee introduced Blanton's as the world's first commercially marketed single barrel bourbon, naming it for Colonel Albert B. Blanton, the man who guided the distillery through Prohibition and the great flood of 1937. Blanton had long set aside his best barrels from the metal-clad Warehouse H for honored guests; Lee turned that private ritual into a category the whole industry would follow.
Blanton's The Original Single Barrel remains the flagship of that legacy. Bottled at 93 proof (46.5% ABV) from barrels still matured in Warehouse H, whose metal skin drives wide temperature swings and deep barrel interaction, it delivers burnt sugar, citrus, clove, and polished oak in the round, elegant style that made single barrel bourbon famous.
Its partner in this set, Eagle Rare 10 Year Old, is another Buffalo Trace icon: a Kentucky straight bourbon aged no less than ten years and bottled at 90 proof (45% ABV). The extra decade in wood shows in its toffee, orange peel, cocoa, and leathery oak — a drier, more contemplative counterpoint to Blanton's brighter sweetness.
Presented in 375ml half bottles, the bundle is built for exactly this comparison: two branches of the same distillery's history, tasted side by side without committing to full bottles. It makes an approachable gift and a smart entry point into Buffalo Trace's most sought-after names.
