Blackened x Wes Henderson Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey brings together two of the most recognizable figures in modern American whiskey. Rob Dietrich, Master Distiller and Blender for BLACKENED — the whiskey brand founded by Metallica — partnered with Wes Henderson, co-founder of Angel's Envy, to create the second release in the Masters of Whiskey Series, a run of collaborations pairing Dietrich with celebrated makers from across the industry.
The whiskey begins as a six-year-old Kentucky straight bourbon chosen for its balance of caramel sweetness and mature oak. Henderson, who helped pioneer fortified-wine finishing alongside his father Lincoln, guided a secondary maturation in white port wine casks. While the bourbon rested, it was exposed to BLACKENED's Black Noise process, which plays low-frequency Metallica recordings through the barrels to drive the whiskey deeper into the wood grain.
The finished bourbon is bottled at cask strength, 116.2 proof (58.1% ABV), and is non-chill filtered, preserving the weight and texture the port casks develop. White port layers orchard fruit and honeyed sweetness over the bourbon's vanilla and baking-spice core, while the elevated proof keeps the profile vivid and precise rather than heavy or sweet.
Expect pear, raisin, cinnamon, and a touch of cigar box on the nose, followed by honey, vanilla, chipotle-warmed spice, and toasted walnut across the palate. The finish is long and viscous, with fruit and oak trading places as it fades.
