Released in 2020, it marked the sixth collaboration between the two Kentucky producers — one of the longest-running partnerships in the series. Copper & Kings, known for unapologetically nontraditional American brandies, proved an ideal foil for a blending house that treats cask finishing as a discipline of its own.
Per Bardstown Bourbon Company's release materials, the whiskey is a nine-year-old Tennessee-distilled bourbon with a mash bill of 84% corn, 8% rye, and 8% malted barley, finished for 18 months in the curacao casks and bottled in Bardstown, Kentucky. Destillare Orange Curacao is Copper & Kings' apple-brandy-based orange liqueur, and a year and a half in its barrels leaves an unmistakable citrus imprint on well-aged bourbon. Eighteen months is a long finish by any standard — most secondary maturations run mere months — and the duration signals how deeply the team wanted that orange-oil character absorbed.
