Woodford Reserve Select American Oak is a 90.4 Proof (45.2% ABV) release from the Master’s Collection that isolates the technical influence of wood terroir. Distilled at the Woodford Reserve Distillery, this expression utilizes the core 72% corn, 18% rye, and 10% malted barley mash bill. The distinguishing factor is the maturation in new American white oak barrels sourced specifically from the Ozark Mountains of Missouri.
This wood is technically distinct for its growth rate and cellular structure, which impacts the extraction of vanillin and tannins during the aging process. Matured in heat-cycled stone warehouses, the resulting structural framework is notably soft and sweet. The technical profile features a nose of fresh-cut oak and almond, a palate of buttery shortbread and toasted marshmallow, and a clean finish of light spice and oak sugar.
